“Hubstaff Tasks has been a great tool for managing my various teams and projects constantly.”

Asana pricing

Asana’s pricing is complex and significantly more expensive than Hubstaff Tasks’. Many of their key features are behind the paywall of their most expensive plan, which is $30.49 per user/month

Sprint management

Hubstaff Tasks

Hubstaff Tasks Sprint interfaceWith Hubstaff Tasks, you can set up custom weekly Sprints so everyone knows what needs to get done and team members can stay on track.

Teams can add labels, due dates, and progress bars to help managers observe how work is progressing. Plus, you can insert checklists into each task and assign those tasks to specific Sprints.

In Hubstaff Tasks, you can assign checklist items to different people. These will appear as subtasks in their Sprints so no one misses anything.

Asana

Asana sprint planning workflow

Asana doesn’t offer a native sprint planning tool like Hubstaff Tasks, but you can manually build a sprint planning portfolio with your team members’ sprints. Then, you can use the Workload tab to manage your team’s workloads and keep projects on track.

Asana lets you create a roadmap for your team’s sprints and plan out project timelines with their timeline tool. In this view, you can see task dependencies and move tasks around to reduce roadblocks.

This process is manual, but if you’re willing to work, you can duplicate the sprint planning feature baked into Hubstaff Tasks.

Automated workflows

Hubstaff Tasks

Hubstaff Tasks automated workflowAutomation is baked into every crucial aspect of Hubstaff Tasks. For example, you can set up custom workflows for Kanban boards to move tasks forward with one click, eliminating the need to repeatedly assign the same people to the same tasks.

If you have a monthly or weekly assignment, you can create recurring tasks within Hubstaff Tasks that are auto-created based on your preferred timing. Build workflows for different projects so you can manage big projects much more easily.

Hubstaff Tasks lets you plan two Sprints into the future, and it will automatically move those tasks into your current Sprint when the date approaches. The remaining projects will also roll over and remain in your current Sprint.

“What made me really fall in love with Hubstaff Tasks is the fact you get more for less, and that’s something you rarely see these days for a project management app.”

Alin Spiridon / Epic Coders

Asana

Asana has a Workflow Builder feature that enables you to automate workflows like Hubstaff Tasks. You can create rules that trigger automation, allowing you to create efficient workflows and streamline your projects.

With Workflow Builder, team members can establish processes, create reports, and share progress with other team members. You can save your workflows in Asana’s template library to repeat the process later or share it with your team.

What I like most about Asana is that I can keep organized with my tasks and project management. There are always multiple team members working on a particular project, and Asana allows me to keep updated with each team member’s progress.”

Agile, automated Stand-ups

Hubstaff Tasks

Hubstaff Tasks Stand-up interfaceHubstaff Tasks is the only software that offers truly automated Agile Stand-ups. With automated Stand-ups, you can schedule automatic reminders to prompt your team to submit their weekly or daily Stand-ups.

Automated Stand-ups are customizable and asynchronous, so your team can update their managers without a check-in meeting. Once submitted, Stand-ups help managers identify roadblocks, get updates without interruptions, and ensure everyone is fully equipped to get work done.

If you’re using the personal To-do feature in Hubstaff Tasks, you can use that list to autofill your Stand-ups. Crossed-off items appear in what you worked on, and unchecked tasks will appear in what’s next.

“Prioritizing, assigning, and keeping track of tasks with our team has never been easier with Hubstaff Tasks – that’s why we love it!”

Trevor Wallace / The Painting Hub Inc.

Asana

Asana Stand-up template

Asana does not have an automated, Agile stand-up feature built into their platform. They offer a stand-up template for organizing your stand-up meetings but don’t send a stand-up form to your team to complete each day like Hubstaff Tasks does.

If you prioritize daily check-in meetings with your team, Asana can help you organize this. However, if your team is Agile and prefers to perform check-ins without a face-to-face meeting, you won’t find that feature in Asana.

Kanban boards

Hubstaff Tasks

Hubstaff Tasks Kanban board interfaceAvoid repetitive, time-draining duties with Hubstaff Tasks’s Kanban boards that blend automation and collaboration. These boards are intuitive and have automation features to help your team work better without introducing too much complexity.

Hubstaff Tasks gives you the visual and straightforward Kanban boards you expect from authentic Agile software. However, it also weaves in automation features that make project management more effortless.

Effortlessly switch from Kanban to Timeline views to see what everyone is working on. With multiple views, finding and fixing bottlenecks before they impact deadlines is easier.

Asana

Asana Kanban board viewAsana lets you visualize your tasks with their Kanban boards and move them across the board as it progresses through the project stages.

Kanban is one thing Asana has mastered. They are known for their visual interface and easy-to-use board structure. On top of Kanban boards, Asana offers Gantt chart timelines and calendar views.

Asana offers multiple boards you can easily toggle between — including a list view, timeline, and calendar. If you’re looking for a visual tool with colorful organization tools, Asana is a great pick.

“I love Asana because of the easy-to-navigate interface, visual organization, and ability to create custom fields that allow my agency to get the most out of our project setups.”

Time tracking

Hubstaff Tasks

hubstaff dashboard

Hubstaff Tasks’s time tracker lets your team track and report time spent on projects and tasks. Time tracking data produces highly accurate reports and delivers a better understanding of what projects or clients have the most significant ROI.

The time team members spend on each task will appear directly on task boards. Add estimates to tasks and track each team member’s progress so you can ensure that projects are on schedule and within budget.

Want more productivity data? Connect Hubstaff Tasks with Hubstaff time tracking to gain more detailed insights into your team's work. You’ll also be able to access budget and expense reports, automate payments, create online invoices, and more.

Asana

Time tracking is available with Asana for Business and Enterprise customers. Like many of Asana’s advanced features, you’ll have to pay an additional amount to access this feature.

Asana’s native time tracking enables you to estimate time for tasks and record the time it takes to complete them. You can manually track time or log the estimated time to calculate the total time spent on a task.

Asana is not known for time tracking, so their time tracking features are fairly basic. You cannot set project budgets, access or approve timesheets, or enable notifications or hourly limits like Hubstaff Tasks.

The verdict

Asana offers amazing features for visual organization, and their website is uniquely aesthetic and colorful. However, users report it to be complicated to use, and many of its features are locked behind relatively expensive pricing plans.

On the other hand, Hubstaff Tasks is the best of what Agile has to offer. It utilizes the power of Scrum, Kanban boards, and Sprints — all in one simple app that doesn’t get in the way of your work. You can even connect it with Hubstaff and access its workforce management features for a fully streamlined workflow.

Ultimately, Hubstaff Tasks is an excellent workspace solution for businesses of any size. It helps teams work better by giving everyone a central place to communicate about projects and understand what work your team should prioritize.

Get your whole team on the right track.
